Theoretically, there is an inherent connection between strategic stability and nuclear deterrence. Tracing back to its origins, strategic stability theory emerged during the Cold War, amid the nuclear arms race between the U.S. and the Soviet Union. As their nuclear strategies and arsenals evolved, the theory’s content was continuously enriched.
